About Prof.(Dr.) Surendra K. Mishra

Dr Mishra is a double post-graduate in social & behavioral sciences and doctorate in culture studies. He has more than four decades of field experience in health and management research and communication. He served for more than twenty years in academic institutions and 6 years in Europe as a Senior Fellow of UNESCO. For more than a decade, he has led a number of civil society initiatives in training, research and evaluation in three continents, namely Asia, Africa and Europe. He has authored three books and published more than 60 research articles in national and international journals. Until 2009, he was teaching and training the post-graduate students in the Public Health Faculty in Jimma University, Ethiopia. Right now, he is directing and mentoring a number of Civil Society initiatives in South Asia.

  • 1. D.C.S. (Didactora in Cultural Studies) with GOLD MEDAL from SKTF, Thessalonica, GREECE in 1986.

  • 2. Ranked first class second in the P. G. Diploma in Archaeology examination of Institute of Archaeology (Govt. of India), New Delhi in 1980.

  • 3. Ranked first class third in the M.Sc. examination in Anthropology of Utkal University, Orissa in 1976.

  • 4. Secured Honours with Distinction marks in the B.Sc. examination of Utkal University, Orissa in 1974.

Experience:

  • 1. Professor, Faculty of Public Health, Jimma University, Ethiopia under WHO-UNDP Faculty Improvement Program (FIP) from 2005- 2009.

  • 2. Research Coordinator, EPOS-India, Kolkata Managing all Research and Evaluation initiatives of EPOS-India at the national level and all other project specific activities, taken up for eastern and north-eastern sectors through its Regional Office from 2004 to 2005.

  • 3. Divisional Chief (Monitoring, Evaluation & Research, Child In Need Institute (CINI), Kolkata Managing Information System of CINI Projects, Evaluation of Programmes at CINI and outside along with conducting different types of Research Projects at organizational, state and national levels from 2001 to 2004.

  • 5. Project Officer, National Institute of Applied Human Research and Development, Cuttack managing 5 different projects from 1995-1997.

  • a. Joint Recipient of Millennium Health Research Award from Rockefeller Foundation & WHO on Health Research Networking in India during 2002.

  • b. President’s Gold medal and Silver Keys to the Museum of Petralona for work-proficiency in the fields of Anthropology & Archaeology of Greece in 1985-86.

  • c. UNESCO Senior Fellowship for studying the Socio-cultural linkage of Gypsies of Europe in 1980-85.
